Suspense crime, Digital Desk : In a win for India, Colombia has rescinded its previous statement extending condolences to Pakistan regarding casualties during India’s Operation Sindoor. This comes after Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed displeasure over Colombia’s reaction which did not include commemoration of the Pahalgam terror attack victims.

As part of a multi-national anti-terrorism initiative, Shashi Tharoor embarked on a tour across the Americas in hope of gathering support to turn global attention towards the growing issue of terrorism. The Colombian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs was Tharoor’s first expected stop. During this meeting, he brought forth India’s stance regarding the counter-terrorism operation and highlighted the importance of distinguishing between people who defend themselves and aggressors.

No justifiable reasoning can be found for treating the attacker and defender equally.

“Tharoor: No Equivalence Between Attacker and Defender,” as the headline states. He continues, “This is an absolute. It is our unquestionable right of self-defense to wage war after the Pahalgam terror attack which absolutely massacred civilians after flag identifying them by their religion on April twenty-second.” The operation’s purpose was to eliminate terror networks in Pakistan.

He pointed out that, “‘those who dispatch terrorists’ and ‘those who resist them’ cannot be placed on the same moral scale.” After this exchange, the Colombian Vice Minister assured him that the previous condolence note had been withdrawn and that India’s viewpoint was accurately understood – “India’s position is now properly understood and strongly supported.”

Bipartisan Support from India

As a followup statement, BJP party member Tejasvi Surya also lauded Tharoor’s remark by stating that one does not need to be a diplomat to tell the difference between a terrorist act and a counter-terrorist act. “There is a difference between tourists being killed and terrorists being neutralised. You cannot create an equivalence between the two,” he said while expressing gratitude toward Colombian officials for reassessing their statements.

Such coordinated statements coming from different political parties demonstrates India’s consolidated commitment when it comes to defending internationally misrepresented aspects – in this case, India’s efforts against terrorism.
