Just days after the emotional exit of ACP Pradyuman from CID, the iconic Indian crime show is now facing another controversy—this time over alleged copyright infringement. Mumbai-based street artist Mooz Graffiti has accused the show's producers of using his and other graffiti artists' work without authorization in a recent episode.
The episode in question, titled ‘The Aftermath,’ continues the story after the death of ACP Pradyuman (played by Shivaji Satam). It features characters Daya and Abhijeet investigating a graffiti-linked mystery across Mumbai. Visuals in the episode reportedly include street art referencing Jared Leto’s Joker and Marvel’s Incredible Hulk—art Mooz and others claim was lifted directly from YouTube videos of their work.
Graffiti Artist Raises Concerns Online
Mooz shared a video on Instagram highlighting the alleged misuse. In it, he expressed mixed emotions—initial excitement at seeing his work on CID, followed by disappointment at the lack of credit. “It’s not just me,” he said, naming artists like Zake and Elmart, “a lot of our works were shown.”
He humorously added in the caption, “Sala ye Barbosa ne credit le liya!” referring to the character Barbosa (played by Tigmanshu Dhulia) who is shown as the mastermind behind the episode’s central crime. Mooz’s video included scenes from the show juxtaposed with footage of his own artwork.
Post Deleted Amid Rising Attention
While Mooz initially shared the clip publicly, it was later removed from his Instagram account. It remains unclear if this was due to a legal notice, private settlement, or personal choice. As of now, there has been no official comment from the CID production team.
The controversy adds to ongoing criticism of the show’s recent creative choices, particularly the decision to kill off ACP Pradyuman, a character beloved by generations of viewers.
Issue Highlights Broader Artist Concerns
Though Mooz used a lighthearted tone, the issue he raised—unauthorized use of creative work—remains serious. Many independent artists have voiced similar frustrations in the past, calling for greater respect and recognition from mainstream productions.
As the episode continues to spark discussions online, the matter underscores the need for better ethical and legal practices in content creation, particularly when it involves independent or digital artists.
