On Monday, China cautioned countries against forging any broader economic arrangement with the United States that may contravene Chinese interests. This warning comes at a time of heightened tensions in the ongoing trade war between the world’s top two economies.

While addressing a session of the ministry, China’s Ministry of Commerce said it will “oppose any party to strike the deal at China’s expense” and warned of “resolute and reciprocal countermeasures” in reaction to this.

US Trade Pressure on Allies

The statement was in response to a Bloomberg report about the possibility of the US government compelling countries willing to accept tariff cuts or exemptions to reduce trade with China. Such actions are likely to include monetary sanctions.
