China has rebutted strenuously the allegations emerging from the White House claiming that the country now faces tariffs at the shocking rate of 245% on its exports to the US. On Wednesday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said China is “not afraid” to fight a trade war, while still urging that a return to dialogue and communication is necessary.
“This trade war was initiated by the US,” Lin defended claiming China’s counter-responses were reasonable and justified actions intended to defend rights and global equilibrium. “We understand China does not want to get into a trade war, but China is not the sort of country that fears engaging in one if it comes to that.”
The White House has increased its tariffs to 245% on certain goods from China which are high-tech in nature. Previously they had also announced plans to increase tariffs on the Chinese neck of the woods to a shocking 250%.”
Washington Sharp Increase in Tariffs 2025
In a statement given by the White house earlier this week, they made it clear how the entire China trade rivalry has been escalating, adding, “We have escalated trade warfare with China, we now have wards reaching 245%-rip-245% percent on certain goods, with each claim being made on labeled statements specific to them, and advanced Chinese technology set to be globally patented in other countries frame. As expected this comes with new state funded incentives sales programs devoid of funding reserve market guarantees.”
Along side levies set forth during his rule, this will be added to the more existing industries suppling active folders controlled by reserve policies.

China Urges Fair Negotiation, Not Pressure
While reechoing an offer to talk, Lin emphasized that any outcome needs to be achieved through respectful negotiation, not by “excessive coercion, forceful ultimatums, or monetary extortion.”
“If the US truly wishes to resolve this through dialogue, it must come to the table without preconditions,” Lin stressed, referring to Washington's need to drop its pressure approach.
Trump: “The Ball Is In China’s Court”
The President Trump also maintained his hardline approach as he stated on Tuesday, reiterating that “the ball is in China’s court” and that Beijing needs to put forth some serious proposals if they expect any real talks to happen. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has toed the line set by the administration stating that it is Chinese leadership that is expected to tone down the situation.
