On March 5, the Union Cabinet that is headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Revision of Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP) with total outlay of Rs 3880 crores.
Under this scheme, there are three components: National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), LH&DC, and Pashu Aushadhi. The sub-components of LH&DC are as follows: Critical Animal Disease Control Programme (CADCP), Establishment and Strengthening of existing Veterinary Hospitals and Dispensaries - Mobile Veterinary Unit (ESVHD-MVU), and Assistance to States for Control of Animal Diseases (ASCAD). Pashu Aushadhi is the new component which was added under the LHDCP scheme, “The total outlay of the scheme is Rs 3,880 crore for two years i.e. 202425 and 202526 which includes provision of Rs 75 crores to provide good quality and affordable generic veterinary medicine and incentive for sale of medicines under Pashu Aushadhi component,” informed the government.
Veterinary care for livestock is being offered through Mobile Veterinary Units (ESVHD-MVU) stationed at the PM-Kisan Samriddhi Kendra and Cooperative Societies that sell generic veterinary medicine known as Pashu Aushadhi. This will result in easy access to livestock health care. LHDCP will help mitigate productivity losses caused by the diseases Foot and Mouth Disease, Brucellosis, Peste des Petits Ruminants, Cerebrospinal Fluid, and Lumpy Skin Disease, among others, by prevention through immunization. Moreover, the scheme will aid in mitigating health deterioration in livestock by providing systematic vaccination and surveillance immunization, along with enhancing huge healthcare infrastructure.
In addition, the schemes will enhance productivity, create new job opportunities, and foster business innovation in rural areas while reducing the economic losses incurred by farmers due to the burden of diseases.
