Post

Shares of India's largest public sector lender, State Bank of India (SBI), have emerged as a high-conviction pick across premier institutional brokerage desks following its September quarter earnings evaluation, with market analysts projecting an upside potential of up to 40 percent from current trading bands. On the BSE, the banking giant's shares changed hands around ₹977 on Wednesday morning, gaining 0.77 percent amid sustained institutional accumulation. Market sentiment around the banking behemoth remains overwhelmingly bullish, evidenced by the fact that none of the 49 equity analysts tracking the counter hold a "Sell" recommendation, with 42 issuing an outright "Buy" rating and the remaining seven recommending a "Hold" stance.

CLSA and Macquarie Project Targets up to ₹1,325 on Broad-Based Credit Expansion

Leading global investment banking firm CLSA has reiterated its "Outperform" rating on the stock, pegging a Street-high target price of ₹1,325 per share, representing an upside of over 35 percent from current valuations. In its research report, CLSA highlighted SBI's credit disbursement momentum as exceptionally broad-based across retail, agriculture, and corporate segments, accompanied by outstanding deposit growth that safeguards liability franchises against systemic liquidity crunches. Concurrently, Macquarie maintained an "Outperform" rating on the lender with a target price of ₹1,220, characterizing the bank's net interest margins as strong, balance sheet asset quality as resilient, and overall underwriting performance as excellent in a dynamic monetary environment.

HSBC Raises Long-Term EPS Estimates as Citi and Bernstein Back ₹1,300 Valuation Band

Reinforcing the positive institutional consensus, global banking major HSBC reaffirmed its "Buy" recommendation on the counter, though it recalibrated its 12-month target price to ₹1,220 from an earlier ₹1,310 to factor in moderate lending moderation and revised valuation multiples for select non-banking subsidiaries. Importantly, HSBC upgraded SBI's projected earnings per share (EPS) estimates by 4 percent to 8 percent across fiscal years 2027 through 2029, pointing toward durable multi-year compounding potential. In addition, global brokerage Citi maintained a "Buy" stance with a price target of ₹1,300, while Bernstein retained a "Market-Perform" rating with an identical ₹1,300 target price, underlining that historically low credit provisioning costs alongside strategic value realization from subsidiary stake sales continue to provide substantial buffers to the lender's core net profitability.
