The Indian film industry came together in mourning as veteran actor Manoj Kumar was laid to rest on April 5, following his death in the early hours of April 4. A sea of emotional tributes marked his cremation ceremony in Mumbai.

A poignant moment emerged when his wife, Shashi Goswami, broke down while bidding her final farewell. A widely shared video captured her visibly heartbroken state as she paid tribute to her late husband.


National Honors and Final Procession

As per Indian tradition and in recognition of his contributions to the nation, Manoj Kumar’s mortal remains were draped in the national flag. An ambulance adorned with tricolour-themed flowers carried his body from his residence to the cremation ground. His son, Kunal Goswami, led the procession, joined by close family, friends, and film fraternity members.

Official Confirmation and Statement from Family

Speaking to ANI, Kunal Goswami confirmed his father’s passing:

“My father, Manoj Kumar, passed away today at 3:30 AM at Kokilaben Hospital. He had been unwell for a long time. He fought every hurdle with resilience and grace. He peacefully breathed his last by God’s grace and Sai Baba’s blessings. Sia Ram.”

Bollywood and National Tributes Pour In

Icons of Indian cinema including Dharmendra, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Raveena Tandon, Anupam Kher, and Subhash Ghai paid their respects on social media. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also offered his condolences, calling Manoj Kumar a “legend” on X.

Known for his deeply patriotic roles and direction, Manoj Kumar’s most memorable films include:

He also directed acclaimed films like Kranti, Hariyali Aur Raasta, Woh Kaun Thi, and Himalaya Ki God Mein.

In recognition of his immense impact on Indian cinema, he received the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
