Bhupendra Yadav Dismantles Opposition Claims on Bihar Voter List
Mounting an aggressive defense of the Election Commission of India's constitutional processes, Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav on Thursday addressed a high-level press conference in Patna to counter opposition narratives regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across Bihar. Flanked by Bihar BJP State President Sanjay Saraogi and senior regional leaders, Yadav presented comprehensive official statistics demonstrating that while opposition coalitions generated political controversy over alleged electoral roll discrepancies, their ground network remained completely inactive. Highlighting the presence of 1,60,813 accredited Booth Level Agents (BLAs) representing 12 recognized political outfits across the state, the Union Minister underscored that only two formal procedural objections were lodged by opposition cadres throughout the intensive verification window, challenging the legitimacy of their public grievances.
Constitutional Mandate: Over 68 Lakh Ineligible, Deceased, and Transferred Entries Filtered
Yadav reinforced that the Special Intensive Revision is a routine, constitutionally protected mechanism anchored under Articles 324 and 326 of the Constitution of India and operationalized through Section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, an exercise already successfully carried out eight times across the nation's democratic history. Presenting granular verification data from Bihar’s door-to-door drive, the Minister highlighted that 21,53,000 genuine new electors were officially added to the state's electoral rolls. Simultaneously, field verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs)—mandated to visit residences up to three times—identified and removed 25 lakh deceased voters, 36 lakh electors who had permanently relocated, and over seven lakh duplicate entries, thoroughly purifying the database to uphold the democratic baseline of "one person, one vote."
Targeting Opposition Think Tanks and Rejecting Unfounded EVM Allegations
Sharpening his critique against the opposition alliance's overarching strategy, Yadav took aim at the ideological disconnect within their operational think tanks, claiming their policy groups are severed from grass-roots public realities. The Minister specifically pointed toward the historical imprint of ultra-left student politics influencing RJD's strategic units, the prevailing footprint of Delhi university circles steering Congress leadership, and legacy regional student bodies shaping Samajwadi Party strategists. Dismantling recurring allegations surrounding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and postal ballots, Yadav noted that questioning institutional credibility immediately following electoral defeats has become a repetitive playbook, urging opposition parties to prioritize genuine accountability among voters in Bihar—a historic cradle of democratic resistance inspired by Jayaprakash Narayan—rather than casting doubts on proven constitutional watchdogs.
