For many, Kubbra Sait is unforgettable as Cuckoo in the hit series "Sacred Games." But beyond the screen, she’s shared a deeply personal story that reveals a different kind of strength and vulnerability. In her memoir, 'Open Book: Not Quite A Memoir', Sait opens up about an experience that shaped her life: having an abortion at the age of 30.
She recounts that the pregnancy was unplanned, the result of a one-night stand. Facing the positive test, a week later she made the decision to terminate the pregnancy because she knew in her heart she wasn't ready for motherhood. "It just wasn't the way I had imagined my life or my journey," she explained.
What makes her story so impactful is her honesty about the complicated emotions involved. While she has clearly stated she has "no regrets" about her choice, she has also been open about the internal struggle. At the time, she says she felt "weak" and "hollow," going through the procedure completely alone. The feeling of being a "terrible human being," she clarified, didn't come from her own feelings about the decision, but from the fear of how society would judge her.
"My choice was about me," Sait has said, emphasizing that she was not prepared to take on the responsibility of a child, especially when the man involved was not ready to be a part of it. Her decision was a conscious one, based on a candid assessment of her own life and capabilities at that moment.
Now, years later, Sait reflects on that difficult period as a moment where she broke away from “stereotypical patterns.”She has also shared that she does not wish to have children, a choice she has made for herself By sharing her emotional story, Kubbra Sait has started an important conversation about personal choice, societal pressure, and the quiet battles many face alone.
