After having a shaky start, they lost to 36/5 in the eighth over and none of UP Warriorz batters managed to make an impact against the bowlers, leading to an underwhelming batting lineup who were even more in a state of panic.
In the first over itself, Deandra Dottin had two wickets to her name, player Kiran Navgire and Georgia Voll for 0. While the other players came and chipped into Judith Dottin's run secor, only at Ress Janja left the game with 2 wickets and 0 runs scored.
The UP Warriorz top order was the first to go down as they struggled to read the conditions that came with a new ball, combined with poor application that ultimately did them in. These factors were escalated by the lack of resistance showcased by the middle order when the conditions were much more favorable.
Grace Harris was the only specialist batter to score any runs as she made 25 runs off 30 balls which included 3 fours.
She had earlier, alongside Harleen Deol 45, shared a second wicket stand of 101 runs with India’s left-handed Deol (90) in just 68 balls, who herself scored 17 boundaries during her innings.
Sophie Ecclestone showed her prowess during the first match of the Ekana Stadium while playing for UP Warriorz with noteworthy numbers of 2 dismissals for 34 runs.
Player of the Match Mooney said, “I think we’re really lucky in this team. We’ve got a couple of left-handers in the top order, so having left and right throughout the innings really helps, especially when there’s a few different types of spinners in the opposing team.”
Summary of the match- Gujarat Giants: 186/5 (Mooney 96*, Deol 45; Ecclestone 2/34); UP Warriorz: 105 (Harris 28, Henry 25; Gautam 3/11, Dottin 2/14).
