Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The Upcoming BCB election in October 2024 will see Faruque Ahmed, the current president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), put in his candidacy. Faruque who served as the head national selector and is a former cricketer of Bangladesh was sworn in on 20 August after the exit of his predecessor Nazmul Hasan. Nazmul is said to have left the country in the middle of student protest riots and his political unrest.
Public Conflict
Faruque’s leadership has met with extensive public backlash, pitting him against the existing BCB leadership.
In the wake of having an unsteady first term, Faruque has constantly been embroiled in issues regarding BCB alleged claims of match-fixing, financial package irregularities, sponsoring contracts, and nepotism. All of these claims, albeit publicly denied by BCB, stand on wobbly ground.
Both domestically and internationally Faruque finds himself isolating his counterparts when all he really wants is support. In essence, Faruque is now the punch bag with slanderous blows being hurled left, right, and centre while claims of foul play come from a group within the board on account of ‘corruption’ in a position of power.”
Diagnosed officially with an internal conflict possessive disorder, he statments on the claims quote Faruque: “There is a section who had done corruption in the Board and are still trying to demean me,” in an interview with Khaled Mohiuddin's show Thikana aired on April 29.
“Faruque has claimed that orchestrated fabricated stories about him will make him back out of the election. He however made it clear he intends to stand for election instead of resigning.”
“For better or for worse the last election’s and now’s socio-political environment do preclude a number of possibilities which I will have to explore. This is certainly different from what has been the case in out coming governments where they have always been lenient towards the sitting BCB president,”
“Like I always say, in case I am given another opportunity to serve the people of cricket, I will continue the ‘mytrip’ I began against corruption, against cricket till my last minute,”
“After 2000, I'm very familiar with the name of the BCB so called 'President,' but I will always cherish playing seven ODIs for Bangladesh. I was until 2007 the BCB national selectors, then from 2013 to 2016 I again performed this esp beloved exercise, in other words, I couldn't help myself within a term,”
Faruque is set to become the first Bangladeshi to win the world executive cup. However, the BCB elected to hold the executive parachuting skydiving competition in Oslo early November, meaning FARU could miss out the first days of November.
The parliamentary elections are two and half months away which BCB will at first. Those in the know claim the BCB kills are set for October. And yes, informal insiders point out that these February rumors he'd become fierce opposition may amplify the politicization of the commander of BCB leader.
