A 46-year-old banker from Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, had to end his Kerala and Tamil Nadu vacation early following multiple calls from the Khar police. He was asked to appear as a witness in a case against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra.

The banker told the Times of India that he received persistent phone calls and an official notice under Section 179 of the CrPC dated March 29, requesting his presence for questioning.

Case Linked to Kunal Kamra's 'Naya Bharat' Video

The investigation is related to a video titled ‘Naya Bharat’, released online on March 24, in which Kunal Kamra allegedly referred to Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde as a “gaddar” (traitor). This led to the vandalism of the Habitat studio by Shiv Sena supporters and a complaint being filed by the party.

Banker's Account of Police Pressure

The banker left Mumbai on March 21 and was scheduled to return by April 6. However, while in Tamil Nadu, he decided to return early after receiving repeated calls from police. He stated the officer doubted his out-of-town status and warned of a visit to his residence, prompting him to cut short his trip.

Despite informing the police that he only attended the show and booked tickets online, the officer reportedly suggested he may have edited the video content—a claim the banker denied as implausible.

Investigation Ongoing with Multiple Witnesses

Approximately 70 individuals attended the show on February 2. However, it remains unclear how many have been contacted as part of the police probe.

Statements are also being taken from the cameraperson who recorded the video and other Habitat studio staff present at the time of the performance.

Kunal Kamra has reportedly received three summons so far from the Khar police regarding this case.
