Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Assam-chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma retorted to the repeated menaces directed towards controlling India's Siliguri Corridor - often referred to as the ‘chicken neck’ - by arguing that Bangladesh also has two thin and strategically susceptible corridors of its own.

Chicken Neck of India Vs Strategic Corridors of Bangladesh

Siliguri Corridor india’s strategically important 22-35 kilometers wide land bridge links the northeastern states with the remaining territory of the country has forever been considered a sensitive area.

Sarma, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said:

“Cry more. For those who continuously rattle the sword against India on the 'Chicken Neck Corridor', here’s the bangladesh perspective. Bangladesh has two of its very own 'chicken' necks which are both considerably more susceptible.

He elaborated on the two vital Bangladeshi passages:

North Bangladesh Corridor
Approx 80km stretch

Dakhin dinajpur(India) to South West Garo Hills(India)
It’s disruption may potentially block off the Rangpur division from the remainder of Bangladesh

Chittagong Corridor
28 km stretch
Runs from South Tripura to Bay of Bengal

This is the sole terrestrial connection bridging Bangladesh’s economic powerhouse Chittagong, and its political capital Dhaka.

Sarma Emphasizes Very Real Geographies

The Assam CM added:

“I am only laying out territorial realities that some tend to turn a blind eye to. Just as India has the Siliguri Corridor, our neighboring country too has two embedded narrow corridors.”

Sarma's comments were interpreted, perhaps, as an appeal to morality concerning basic balance of power in the border areas.
