Before he was known for his explosive finishing on the cricket field, Indian batter Rinku Singh survived a terrifying ordeal that left a lasting impact on him, both physically and mentally. In a recent podcast appearance, the cricketer shared a harrowing story from his childhood of a brutal monkey attack that was so severe, he wasn't sure he would survive.

Speaking on a podcast with Raj Shamani, Rinku, who is part of India's Asia Cup squad, opened up about his humble beginnings in Aligarh, where encounters with monkeys were a frequent problem. He revealed he's been bitten a total of five times, but one attack stands out as particularly gruesome.

"The most dangerous bite happened when it was raining," Rinku recalled. He explained that since his family home didn't have an indoor washroom, he, his brother, and a friend had to go out to the fields. "As we were going, someone behind us shouted, 'The monkey has come.' Then it came from behind and caught me," he said.

What followed was a terrifying struggle. "I was completely pinned down, and it kept biting me again and again. It tore out a lot of my flesh, a lot," Rinku stated. His brother tried desperately to help by throwing stones at the animal, but it wouldn't let go.

The attack left him with a shocking injury. "My blood was flowing... and my bones inside were visible," he shared, describing the graphic scene. His family rushed him to a nearby clinic for treatment. The incident has had a long-term physical effect; Rinku mentioned that a recent DEXA scan revealed a one-kilogram muscle difference between his two arms as a result of the torn muscle.

From surviving such a traumatic event to becoming a key player for the Indian cricket team, Rinku's journey is a powerful story of resilience.
