Bouncers have been known for crowd control at select events for years and providing protective services to celebrities, not to mention that they were in charge of order control in pubs and parties. It was here that women joined men in the hospitality sector, only now are women as physically and mentally robust as men. In this category is Anu Kunjumon, who is changing the industry for the better.

Anu is only 37, but she is head of security for superstar Mohanlal, putting a wide gap to this male-dominated industry. Recently she was seen taking care of security at an event in Kochi, and it’s inspiring to say the least.

In an interview with PTI she said like many of us will equally be able to relate to, desire for respect is something women have always longed for.

This space was clearly defined by personal hurdles where she had to supply money to her mother and sister as she tried to scale the social ladder with an attempt to gain some self-respect.

Anu Kunjumon began her professional life as a freelance photographer during her undergraduate years because of her love for shooting advertisement campaigns and going to other star functions. For a moment at least, she puzzled over why a woman couldn’t work as a bouncer. That one remark made a change in her thinking to where she just might work in a field that has no ladies. She did get a job, but in the equally male-dominated world of security, she was going to suffer from the male ego and discrimination.

Managing security at star-studded functions or even parties at the local pub, Anu Kunjumon has had an illustrious career. Per PTI, the need for female bouncers has increased at award functions, celebrity meets, and night clubs. She observed that women in this field get paid the same as men now.

Apart from handling security at events, Anu also has the responsibility of escorting female celebrities and business women. Even with the most challenging of crowds, Anu is confident in stating that she does not have problems – with males or females – people management.

In the meantime, Mohanlal, a superstar, is basking in the triumph of L2: Empuraan, which Prithviraj directed. The film, currently showing in theatres, has received rave reviews which is only increasing the buzz around it.
