Suspense Crime, Digital Desk :Following the lukewarm reception of Sky Force and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Akshay Kumar is now celebrating the success of `Kesari Chapter 2`. The actor spoke exclusively with SCREEN discussing his career, selection of impactful films, public reactions to his work, and as an artist, what he fears the most.
Films can affect the society positively:
Akshay is of the view that his films have started very important conversations in the society in the past.
What did he say?
A good example is shared above. “After watching my film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, people started giving more importance to building toilets in homes. Likewise, after watching my film Padman, conversations surrounding menstruation became less of a taboo in households. Daughters began talking about periods and purchasing menstrual pads from their fathers without hesitation,” he said.
He said these things for reason for mentioning his film OMG 2, where he talked about sex education. In his words, “It becomes very gratifying as an actor when viewers appreciate and get inspired by the content.”
Mr. Akshay Kumar's Greatest Weakness.
Prompted for his fears, the action-hero had the following to say.
“Other than my fear of falling from a helicopter, my greatest weakness is waking up one day to there being no messages addressed to me. That would make me feel that my time is over, that I am no longer needed.”
He went on to state that this drives him to continue working day and night.
“I will keep working until they have to put me down. Life is too short, and resting would only make it even shorter.”
Confronting the Criticism Head On and Evolving as a Performer
Responding to criticism directed towards him and his films, Akshay admitted that negative feedback does hurt but looks at it from a positive light as a chance to grow and an opportunity towards progression.
He stated,
“The audience is the real judge because they pay for everything. Their applause encourages me, and their criticism educates me. I aspire to improve perpetually.”
He also remarked,
“On many occasions, I have been told to look into other genres of film. While some criticism is painful, it is still good provided it is honest.”
