US and Russian defense ministers hold talks for the first time since the attack on Ukraine

Washington : US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu held phone conversations on Friday for the first time since the war in Ukraine. However, officials say that even after this conversation, there has been no sign of change in Moscow’s stance. US Defense Headquarters Pentagon said in a statement that in talks with his Russian counterpart, Austin called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and insisted on keeping the channels of dialogue open.

A senior Defense Department official said Friday that the hour-long talks did not resolve “serious issues” or change what Russia is doing or saying. It’s been 12 weeks since the war in Ukraine started. In late February, Russia invaded Ukraine. Earlier, both the leaders had talks on 18 February.
