Russia will not participate in special UNHRC session on Ukraine

Moscow : Russia will not participate in the upcoming special session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Ukraine, the Foreign Ministry announced in Moscow

, “Unfortunately, our arguments and explanations regarding the actual goals of the particular. The military operation and the situation on the ground are being completely ignored, Xinhua news agency quoted the ministry’s spokesperson Maria Zakharova as saying on Tuesday.

“The Russian delegation will not legitimize another partisan political show with its presence,” Zakharova said.

Russia’s decision comes a day after the UNHRC announced that it would hold a special session on Thursday to “address the deteriorating human rights situation in Ukraine stemming from the Russian aggression”.

The session is being organized at the request of Ukraine.

On March 3-4, the UNHRC held an urgent debate on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, after which it decided to establish an independent international commission of inquiry to investigate all alleged violations of human rights in the context of Moscow’s invasion of Kyiv.

Also on 7 April, the United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly on a resolution proposed by the US to suspend Russia from the UNHRC following horrific images and horrific narratives of killings and atrocities that emerged from Buka, Ukraine.

Soon after the vote, Russia announced that it was voluntarily withdrawing from the 47-member council.
