Gun violence in the United States: A total of 9 people were killed in a shooting in California on Monday (January 23), police have detained a suspect in the incident. Police headquarters in San Manto said the shooting happened on a highway near Half Moon Bay, about 30 miles south of San Francisco.
San Manto police said the victims were found at two different locations. Along with this, 2 students were killed, while 1 teacher was seriously injured in a shooting at a school in Des Moines city of Iowa, USA. Des Moines police have confirmed both deaths. According to the police, the condition of the injured teacher remains critical.

There was firing in California on Sunday as well
This is the third incident in two days in California, in which four people have died. Earlier on January 22, 10 people were killed in a shooting during Chinese New Year celebrations in Monterey Park in Los Angeles, California.
Many people were injured in this shootout. After this incident, the video of the rescue operation went viral on social media. Following the attack, US President Joe Biden ordered the US flag to be flown at half-mast for a day in tribute to those killed in the California shooting.
Shooting in an Asian dominated area
According to the news agency CNN, where the shooting took place in Monterey Park, a large number of people of Asian origin live there. 65.5 percent of the total population lives there. So if experts are to be believed, one of the reasons behind the shooting could be racial discrimination. The FBI will investigate the matter. The FBI Los Angeles Field Office is in contact with local police and working with all other relevant agencies.
