This year, Kashi will witness a grand spectacle on Maha Shivratri, with scenes resembling the Maha Kumbh as five of the 13 akhadas—Juna, Awahan, Agni, Niranjani, and Atal—will join forces for a historic procession. The procession will start from Hanuman Ghat and Shivala, led by two Acharya Mahamandaleshwars, and it promises to be a spiritual highlight of the day.

A Grand Procession of 5 Akhadas

The five major akhadas will take out a procession together, marking a significant moment in the spiritual landscape of Kashi. Traditionally, the Niranjani and Atal akhadas have organized their processions separately, but this time, they will join forces, followed by a visit to the Baba Vishwanath Darbar. The procession will be a grand affair, featuring Damru sounds, band music, and around 20 chariots carrying Mahamandaleshwars, Shrimahants, and other key figures, all spreading spiritual energy throughout the city.

Elaborate Arrangements at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham

To accommodate the expected surge of devotees, the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham is making special arrangements for Maha Shivratri. With the backdrop of the ongoing Mahakumbh festival, preparations are in full swing to ensure safety, convenience, and smooth operations for the pilgrims. Additional barricades, zigzag arrangements, and cleanliness efforts have been put in place, and LED screens at various points in the Dham will allow devotees to view Lord Mahadev if they cannot be present directly.

Crowd Management and Security Measures

Given the massive influx of pilgrims due to the Mahakumbh, the administration has taken comprehensive measures for security, crowd management, and traffic control, in consultation with officials from Juna Akhara. Special arrangements include designated zones for safety, and information will be regularly broadcasted via mikes in the temple courtyard to guide and assist devotees.

Facilities for Devotees’ Comfort

In addition to physical safety measures, the temple trust has ensured necessary facilities for all visitors. There will be provisions for drinking water, cleanliness, and assistance for elderly or differently-abled devotees. A dedicated Lost and Found center will be operational, and staff will be present to help with any issues, including assisting those with young children.

Special Appeal to Devotees

Given the anticipated record number of visitors, the CEO of the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Shri Vishwa Bhushan, has made a special appeal to devotees. On Maha Shivratri, revered saints from various akhadas will visit the temple, and as such, there might be brief interruptions to the darshan for regular devotees. The administration urges patience and cooperation during this busy period to ensure a smooth and spiritual experience for everyone.

Virtual Darshan for Those Unable to Attend

For those unable to attend in person, the temple trust has made arrangements for virtual darshan through social media platforms, YouTube, and Tata Sky. This will allow elderly, sick, and differently-abled devotees to experience the darshan of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Mahadev from the comfort of their homes.

Medical Assistance Available

To ensure the health and safety of all visitors, medical teams will be deployed at multiple locations within the temple premises. Devotees are urged to take care of their health and seek assistance if needed.

With these extensive preparations, Kashi is set to host one of the most significant Mahashivratri celebrations in recent years, blending spirituality, tradition, and modern conveniences for the comfort of all pilgrims.
