The incident reportedly took place last week, with videos showing passengers being forced to leave the platform and quickly collecting their belongings, including blankets, before being cleared by railway staff.

People's anger was seen on social media

The incident angered people on social media and they criticised the railway staff for not showing sensitivity towards the passengers. One social media user said, "Heartbroken, there is so much poverty and neglect everywhere, government after government is letting people down while politicians are filling their accounts in heaven one after the other," while another said, "The station needs to be cleaned but not like this, especially in such extreme cold. No consideration for small children either! Where do passengers go if their trains are late and waiting rooms are jam packed?"

While some agreed with the authorities to clear the platform, they said it was not a place to rest as it may cause inconvenience to others. "Railway platform is not a place to rest. If you have a ticket, wait in the waiting room or outside," said a user.

DRM reprimanded

After the video went viral, DRM Sachindra Mohan Sharma took cognizance of the matter and reprimanded the concerned sanitation workers. Officials have assured the people that such incidents will not happen again.

The DRM tweeted that necessary instructions have been given to the CHI and sweepers posted at the station. Passengers are also advised to avoid sleeping on the platform. There are adequate facilities available at the station like waiting hall, dormitory and retiring room, which they can use for their convenience and comfort.
