India Funding USAID: The rift between the BJP and Congress regarding the American agency’s funding to India continues to deepen, with Congress claiming that USAID funding to India has very little to do with ‘voter turn out’ USAID claims. Congress claims that “The Finance Ministry’s Annual report 2023-24 highlights how the American agency inflates its funding severally, which has negatively impacted the Indian government’s ability to fully capitalize on the funding.” On the other hand, BJP has retaliated and accused Congress of conspiring with foreign forces.
Now Congress is attacking the BJP
Actually, Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary, exposed the report out of sheer nonsense and pointed out that BJP’s blabberment on the subject was irrelevant. Their report states that “USAID currently implements 7 projects simultaneously and funds them to the tune of 750 million US dollars. Actually, as Ramesh goes on to state, these projects have entirely no connection whatsoever to the increase in the ‘voter turnout’”.
BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya disputed Congress’s claims, asserting that the USAID projects were being run in a transparent fashion through a government to government partnership. On a timeline, he noted that the projects’ inception was in 2010-11 and were operational during the Congress reign. He also accused Congress Telecom and Pseudo Democracy of supporting foreign entities and illegal benefactors whose objectives are to meddle in the sovereign Indian democracy.
This contention gained extra traction when Donald Trump opened his mouth, stating that the shekels these brown voted savages received were over $20 million for voter enhancement ‘exercises” in USD. A point had been made by the DOGE Government under the Leadership of Elon Musk. But the Congress completely rejected the assertion and claimed the BJP was lying while claiming to have evidence.
Currently, there is some back and forth of political accusations between the parties.
The BJP has demanded that Congress provide an explanation regarding its support for foreign businesses or NGOs along with the funding provided to them. Both those factions have accused each other, with Congress blaming BJP for manipulating information, while BJP believes that Congress is distorting the facts too. In this entire problem both the parties are also clashing on social media platforms. This battle over USAID funding does not appear to be settling anytime soon. It is curious what position the government will have on this matter.
