On Thursday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami turned a spotlight on various schemes initiated there, stressing that the state ‘Devbhoomi’ will implement Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in this month.
Uttarakhand is the First state in the country where UCC act was enforced, it intends to there be uniform marriage divorce and inheritance rules for every citizen in the state, except people from the scheduled tribes, of all faiths. Besides, all marriages including live in relationships would have to be registered under the new rules.
“Uniform Civil Code law is formed in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. This is the first honour of the state and I assure that Dhami the law will come into force within this month ”’ he said while inaugurating the 29th Uttarayani Mela in Bareilly.
He further described the UCC in India to that of several holy rivers in the country like that of It is Sharda, Ganga, Saraswati and Kaveri in the sense that while the rivers nourishes the people across the country so shall the UCC.
According to "Dhami": “We are looking to establish the Ganga Corridor in Haridwar and Rishikesh, as well as the Sharda River Corridor” For Tourism, this means an ever rising flow of tourists, especially after the Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham’s reconstruction and beautification is completed.
Khadi Village Industries Commission and the Uttarakhand State Government along with ‘Dhami’ claimed, “Our vision is to add Sharda corridors along with enhancing purnagiri temples, it provides me self amusement seeing devotees of Uttar Pradesh so enthusiastic.”
The chief minister made a bold statement saying, “Our state is expanding and gaining a reputation, I am certain we will be an ideal destination for weddings and tourism”.
“To support women in the state we will offer them interest free loans as over one lakh women in Uttarakhand are currently working which in return has immensely helped the state’s economy. Handicraft from our state is earning a lot praise especially from multinational companies alongside the women doing excellent assistance work.”, said Dhami
“On security and governance I had Dhami include counter exam malpractice, anti riot legislation and anti conversion law on our reform agenda.”
"In a civil unrest, any harm done will be compensated for by the rioters, and we have given tough penalties for such acts by drafting an anti-riot legislation," he stated.
He added: "This means that many people cannot play dirty anymore, and according to our anti-cheating law, more than One hundred examiners shammed with false examination and had turned to prison otherwise."
To address what he described as "land jihad", which is allowing illegal occupation of land to further a particular agenda, Dhami says that 5,000 acres of land has been retrieved. However, he suggested that tackling "spit jihad" which calls for certain unwanted public or oral excretions, will need new legislation aimed at keeping society orderly.
On the other hand, the chief minister mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially open the 28th National Games in Uttarakhand on January 28. He said: “I concluded my speech today, marking the end of the 28th National Games.
He had earlier participated in the 29th Uttarayani Mela where Bareilly MP Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar, Mayor Dr Umesh Gautam and Cantonment MLA Sanjeev Aggarwal were present.
The traditional foods, combined with countless stalls run by local artists, celebrating the cultural music and dance of Uttarakhand, draws audiences in three-day fairs at Bareilly Club Ground taking place next.
Many years has the UCC been on the agenda of the BJP for the entire nation. However, a year ago the party's government, just before the unlimited elections of the Lok Sabha, was the first to make a real movement in the fulfillment of the policy in Uttarakhand.
An in-depth report was presented to the state government by the expert committee led by the ex supreme court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai which was formed by Dhami and which was comprised of four volumes in February of 2024.
Subsequently, a few days later after the draft was fowarded, the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code Bill was issued in the Assembly and passed on February 7th.
Droupadi Murmu, the funcitoning President of Azadi India, sanctioned the UCC Act on 11 March and as a result, this law becomes the first of the kind in India in the year of moving of the Britishers from India as a hill state.
Dhami had said in no unclear terms that the UCC will becmae effective from January, this has been said on previous occasions by Dhami.
