Students in Telangana can enjoy a break on January 28 since Shab-e-Meraj received official designation as an optional school holiday. Minority educational institutions have the option to establish holidays but other institutions remain free from this requirement.

Throughout Islamic history Shab-e-Meraj stands as a special day because Muslims believe the Prophet Muhammad traveled to heaven during this night. Muslims throughout all parts of the world respect this festival as they observe it. The State government of Telangana declared this occasion an optional holiday during this present year.

Shab-e-Meraj received a different status in Telangana this year as compared to 2021 when the state had declared it a general holiday. The whole of Jammu and Kashmir has declared January 28 as an official public celebration day according to government announcement.

Check with your current educational institution about holidays because the January 28 observance status varies between educational facilities. After Sankranti's 10-day celebrations ended in January the official holiday schedule remains uninterrupted. Telangana residents will observe Maha Shivratri on February 21 which marks the next official day of rest.
