New Delhi: The National Capital Region (NCR), including Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad, experienced rainfall on Thursday morning, bringing back the winter chill. Light rain continued in several areas until the time of reporting. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has attributed this wet spell to a Western Disturbance, predicting more showers throughout the day along with strong winds.

Rainfall and Temperature Update

  • Delhi and surrounding regions saw light to moderate rain early Thursday morning.
  • The temperature in Delhi was recorded at 15°C at 6 AM.
  • The IMD forecast suggests cloudy skies with intermittent showers throughout the day.
  • The maximum temperature is expected to be around 25°C, while the minimum may drop to 13°C.

Strong Winds Likely Along With Rain

  • The IMD report indicates that light rain or drizzle will continue until the afternoon.
  • Winds blowing at a speed of 20-30 km/hr may accompany the rain.
  • By February 21, skies are expected to clear, leading to a gradual rise in temperatures.

Why is Delhi Experiencing Rain?

The current spell of rain in Delhi-NCR is due to an active Western Disturbance over northern Pakistan, which is influencing weather patterns across Punjab, Haryana, northern Rajasthan, and western Uttar Pradesh.

According to Skymet Weather, this marks the second winter rainfall spell of February 2025. Earlier, Delhi received 0.5 mm of rain on February 4 and 5. However, despite these showers, the total rainfall in February remains significantly below the normal average of 21.5 mm.

With the weather expected to stabilize after February 21, residents can expect a return to warmer temperatures as winter gradually transitions to spring.
