In an ambitious move to rival AI powerhouses like OpenAI and Google, Perplexity AI has launched its Deep Research tool, designed to provide expert-level analysis on complex topics, including finance, marketing, health, and travel planning.

This tool aims to save users hours of research by autonomously conducting in-depth analysis. According to Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas, Deep Research completes most tasks in under three minutes, significantly outpacing competitors. It performs dozens of searches, scans hundreds of sources, and compiles the findings into a clear, structured report.

"Excited to introduce the Perplexity Deep Research Agent: available for free to all users. Paid users only need to pay $20 per month to access an expert-level researcher for 500 daily queries, with full reports generated in under three minutes," Srinivas shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

How Deep Research Works

Perplexity claims that its AI-powered agent functions similarly to a human researcher by iteratively searching for relevant information, analyzing sources, and refining its approach as it progresses. It is particularly effective in fields like finance, marketing, technology, health, product research, and travel planning.

Currently, the tool is available on Perplexity’s website, with upcoming support for iOS, Android, and Mac.

Despite falling behind ChatGPT in accuracy rankings on Humanity’s Last Exam, Perplexity’s Deep Research tool outperforms models like Gemini Thinking, o3-Mini, Grok 2, and Claude 3.5 Sonnet.

With its ability to deliver expert-level insights quickly and efficiently, Perplexity AI’s Deep Research tool could become a game-changer for professionals and researchers looking to streamline their workflow.
