Microsoft has announced the introduction of its new AI-enhanced search feature called ‘Copilot Search’ after Google was working on Gemini’s AI search feature. This is reminiscent of google’s ongoing trials of an “AI Mode” for Search. According to Windows Latest, the feature directly integrates generative AI into search results by providing summaries embedded with source links instead of the traditional web links.

Copilot AI Search: How it works

Regarding this feature, the article details, “Copilot Search” mode automatically creates AI-driven summaries along with source backlinks to verify the data. The users then can view related images and videos and through follow questions, build on the initial search all without leaving Bing’s platform.

Like the existing Bing features such as AI search summaries and the “Deep Search” feature, this function appears to be built on it. However, unlike the other modes, this one is more efficient as it removes results based on links and replaces traditional steps with AI answers to questions, giving users a more fluid experience while searching.

Comparison with Google’s AI Mode

Google has been working on an “AI Mode” for Search and has been testing it internally; however, they have not rolled it out yet. While testing, Google focused on design and features, the same Microsoft has integrated into their new feature, although to US users, Microsoft has already launched their version, which is a step further than Google.

Microsoft has been featured on Windows Latest, confirming his experimentation with the AI-powered search mode but is secretive about the strategy scope. As of now, some users in the US can see the feature through an overflow menu in the filter for searches on Bing, while on some accounts, it shows up for them unexpectedly, without needing to click on any extra tabs.

There is no denying that Microsoft has begun taking the lead by making “Copilot Search” available to users first, but Google's internal testing seems to indicate that American dominance is on. With the increased focus on AI driven search from both companies, users can expect a drastic change from link based identifier mechanisms.
