Mehbooba Mufti who leads the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) extended her appeal to both Nitish Kumar of Bihar and Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh against the Waqf Act amendments.

According to Mufti the proposed amendments break Muslim religious and constitutional rights while diminishing Waqf Act independence to let the government acquire possessed Waqf properties.

Through its proposed Waqf amendment bill the government simultaneously violates Muslim rights while establishing conditions that would allow the seizure of their properties by reducing Waqf’s autonomy. Through a post on X (formerly Twitter) Mufti directed letters to @NitishKumar ji and @ncbn ji asking them to prevent this assault against the Indian concept.

Mufti agrees that Bill represents an organized campaign by the government to reduce Muslim involvement and power.

Mufti wrote in her letter to Nitish Kumar and N.N. Bhardwaj that the bill arrives at a time which marks the systematic disenfranchisement and political, social and economic marginalization of Muslims across India.

Mufti criticized the joint parliamentary committee because she felt their consultation with opposition concerns had no genuine attempt to resolve issues faced by the affected community. She described the process as farcical.

The proposed amendments fail to benefit Muslim citizens because they weaken the constitutional rights that they deserve according to Mufti's statement.

Concerns Over Majoritarianism and Secularism

Mufti who served as the previous Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister accused the bill of heightening religious divisions because majoritarian rules have becoming widespread since 2014.

The proposed legislation sends a direct assault against three fundamental Indian values which encompass both diversity and pluralistic society and peaceful coexistence. Through its actions the bill attacks India's secular framework and it changes Mahatma Gandhi's ideal vision for India," she emphasized.

The NDA leaders should immediately stop the bill from proceeding forward.

Mufti directed her message to Kumar and Naidu because these two leaders have consistently championed constitutional principles and fostered Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb values.

The NDA members hold a special ability to shape this crucial issue because they can stop the escalating attacks on national security and interreligious harmony.

Mufti finished her plea with a direct request to the leaders regarding the need to stop the bill from destroying the fundamental social structure of India.
