Varanasi, the spiritual capital of India, is set to witness a Maha Kumbh-like spectacle this Mahashivratri 2025. The city will be immersed in devotion as a grand Shiva procession takes place before the Abhishek (ritual bathing) of Lord Shiva at Kashi Vishwanath Dham.

On Wednesday, thousands of devotees will have the rare opportunity to witness Naga Sadhus and akhadas as they participate in the sacred rituals. Kashi, which serves as the headquarters for five major akhadas, has welcomed these ascetics directly from the Kumbh Mela after Basant Panchami, and they will stay until Shivratri.

Traditional Sadhana and Rituals of Naga Sadhus

The Naga Sadhus, known for their intense spiritual practices, will complete their Sadhana (spiritual discipline) in Kashi in the traditional way on Mahashivratri. As part of the rituals, the Acharyas, Sadhus, and Naga Sadhus from different akhadas will visit Baba Vishwanath and offer prayers in a grand procession.

To ensure smooth darshan (viewing) for both devotees and saints, the district administration has carefully scheduled the Shobha Yatra (royal procession) and set a fixed route for public darshan.

Timings and Route for Mahashivratri Darshan

The Naga Sadhus and other saints will have special darshan of Baba Vishwanath between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM on Mahashivratri. They will begin their journey from Godaulia and proceed towards Gate No. 4 of Kashi Vishwanath Dham with their entire entourage.

During this time, the common devotees will be directed through the Ganga Dwar route, entering via Dashashwamedh Ghat. This arrangement was finalized after discussions between the district administration and the Akhadas.

Massive Gathering Expected in Varanasi

With an estimated crowd of over 20 lakh devotees, elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure smooth movement. All vehicles arriving from outside will be parked at designated parking spaces along Banaras’ borders. From there, devotees will be provided with city buses and e-rickshaws to reach Vishwanath Dham conveniently.

Varanasi is all set to immerse in divine celebrations, making this Mahashivratri 2025 a truly unforgettable spiritual experience.
