Completing his service as the US ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti highlighted the significance of his role in strengthening bilateral ties between India and the US that he describes as “compelling” and “consequential”.

Garcetti commented, during his last address as Indian Ambassador, “It’s about people who overcome the barriers of languages, time zones, cultures and religions and strive to improve life for their countries and for the world.” speaking about US-India relations.

According to Garcetti, India has taken over as the forerunner when it comes to sending international students to the US.

When Garcetti was giving his Ambassadorship address ’ The United States and India: Building Bridges for our People,’ commented, “I am proud to say Indian has now replaced China as the top source for international students in America pursuing high education with one out every four students enrolled in an American university being an Indian.".

Garcetti believes these statistics reinforce that American and Indian students have a remarkably bright future and vividly illustrate the growth in both countries’ reinforced ties.

He claimed, “You are not able to build the future if you are unaware of the past… since 2016, the US has helped to return 578 priceless gold cultural artefacts back here to India."

He further said in the address that his family, including his children, have been forced to leave their family home as wildfires destroy a big part of Los Angeles.

Previously, Garcetti mentioned that he hails from Los Angeles and said, “Also, I wish to give my thanks to many of you who have called me during this past week while my beautiful city is on fire due to the most dreadful and destructive wildfires.”

Wildfires in Los Angeles

According to reports, the rapid and explosive fires that have been raging for approximately a week have burned down numerous houses and claimed approximately 24 lives in the Los Angeles region. Firefighters, on the other hand, caught a little respite because the weather was calmer, albeit they were wary of another wind forecast.
