Hyderabad: ISL has turned into a disaster for Hyderabad FC as the last match that they won was in November 2024. Situated at the 10th place on the league table the bottom-ranked Hyderabad FC will be eager to put an end to nine games winless streak against Jamshedpur FC on Thursday.
A team that has struggled to score 10 points from 16 league matches this season, the hosts are now struggling to keep afloat in the current tournament. Place on the other hand, Jamshedpur FC, lying at fourth position, has played 15 matches and gained 28 points and the team is also looking forward to get a better position of the play off line.
Hyderabad FC’s Struggles
The ISL team from Hyderabad last registered victory on 7 November 2024 where they beat Kerala blasters at Kochi with 2-1. After that, they have not tasted victory in the next nine games that they have played in the tournament. On top of that, the team is in a streak of four consecutive losses with their play often seeming to miss the final touch, which could clearly tilt a match in its favor.
Since the previous meeting between Hyderabad and Jamshedpur, the Red Miners won with a score of 2 to 1 in October 2024. A similar outcome on Thursday shall not only give, Jamshedpur FC their second successive league double over Hyderabad FC during this calendar year but would represent the third occasion this ISL event has been accomplished.
Jamshedpur FC’s Momentum
The home side – Jamshedpur FC arrive into the match on the back of good defensive display and good away form. Recent 3-0 victory against Mumbai City FC saw them playing compact defending unit while entertaining 1-1 draw against Mohun Bagan Super Giant at home only underlined their steel.
Placed at the fourth position at the groups stage at the moment, Jamshedpur FC has a good chance in the cup and will definitely will go for more. A victory on Thursday will see them consolidate their spot on the playoff while on the other hand relegating Hyderabad to further depth.
ISL matches between the two teams: According to past records, the Jamshedpur FC has won six out of the 11 times. Four of the matches have been stale, and the only victory that Hyderabad FC could get under their belt makes the task even more challenging for the hosts.
Coaches Call for Key Improvements
The interim head coach of Hyderabad FC, Shameel Chembakath, was appealing to his team’s attackers to be a little more efficient in front of the goal. As Danny was up in the ladder increasing his pressure he urged the team to get a much needed 3points in the next match at home.
“We were quite loose in the final third and I think we need to be a bit more clinical.” Ahead of the match Chembakath said: “We have to get three points at home.” “Jamshedpur FC are a well-coached team and well organized they know that we are coming, so of course it shall be a tough match.”
On the same note, head coach of Jamshedpur FC, Khalid Jamil, called on his players to be focused and do well when playing at an away ground. Admitting that the match was important he said, “We have prepared for this match as we have been doing up to this match”. In particular, we need to perform good in away matches. It is almost like a must-win match for us tomorrow.”
Stakes High for Both Sides
Of particular importance for Hyderabad FC, this match is the lifeline to grab the collapsing season of the club. They are currently at the bottom of the table and even if they want to make some sort of a challenge in the knock out stage, they have four more matches in the league stage to play. What is important to stress is the fact that there is a big pressure on the players and on the rest of the coaching staff as well.
Jamshedpur FC, on the other hand, have a clearer objective: cement their status amongst the league’s top four sides and ensure for a slip up free end to the season. There will be sure to be no shortage of motivation with playoffs on the horizon and Hyderabad facing them with a weak record.
When the two teams take the field, I will keep my fingers crossed for Hyderabad to pull of an upset and Jamshedpur to continue with their climb up the rankings. For the fans it was a battle to change the turn of the two teams in the new season of the 2024-25 ISL.
