Paan Nalin’s Gujarati film Chelo Show is India’s official entry at the Oscars
Mumbai: Gujarati film ‘Chello Show’ has been selected by India as the country’s official entry in the Oscars competition. Paan Nalin, who is of Gujarati origin but made a name for himself in Hollywood as an actor-filmmaker, has already won several international awards.
RRR may be India’s official entry as there was long-standing speculation in Hollywood media that Indian film ‘RRR’ might win an Oscar this time. Along with this, ‘Kashmir Files’ was also in competition. However, the Film Federation of India refuted all these speculations and in a way surprised cine lovers across India by announcing ‘Chello Show’ as India’s official entry.
The film will release in India on the next date. To be released on October 14. However, it has been screened at international film festivals before. It had its global premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. It also won the Golden Spike Award at the 66th Valladolid Film Festival held in Spain.
The film is based on Pan Nalen’s own childhood experiences. A nine-year-old boy named Samya develops a relationship with a technician running a project in a theatre, and this is where the journey of his love for cinema begins. Set in the backdrop of a small village in Saurashtra, the film stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Rawal and Paresh Mehta.
