Akshay Kumar tests COVID-19 positive again, to skip Cannes 2022 film festival
Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar on Saturday (May 14) announced that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. This is the second time, that the actor tested positive for the virus. He had earlier tested COVID-19 positive in April 2021.
The 54-year-old actor took to social media and shared the update with his fans. He announced that he had canceled his visit to the India Pavilion at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival following the diagnosis. “Really looking forward to our cinema at India Pavilion on #Cannes2022 but sadly have tested positive for covid. will give it rest. Best wishes to you and your entire team @ianuragthakur. Will really miss being there, wrote Kumar on Twitter.
Last year in 2021, after the actor was diagnosed with the virus, he shared a note on Twitter which read, “I want to inform everyone that, this morning, I have tested positive for COVID-19 . I have immediately isolated myself following all the protocols. I am in home quarantine and I have sought necessary medical care. I wholeheartedly request all the people who have come in contact with me to get themselves tested and take care of themselves. Back in action very soon.”
Meanwhile, the superstar will next be seen in Yash Raj Films’ period drama ‘Prithviraj’, which was earlier tested. The actor has been linked with Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar. The film is Prithviraj directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi. In the film, Akshay plays the title role of Prithviraj Chauhan, the king of the Chauhan dynasty. Sonu Sood and Sanjay Dutt are also a part of the film, which will hit the theaters on June 3. Backed by Yash Raj Films, ‘Prithviraj’ will release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
Recently, the actor unveiled the first song from his film ‘Prithviraj’ on the internet, titled ‘Hari Har’ and claims that it is one of the most patriotic songs he has heard in his entire acting career. He said, “According to me, ‘Hari Har’ is the soul of the film and salutes the courageous spirit of Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan, who sacrificed everything to save his motherland from the ruthless invader of the ghastly.”
The actor said ‘Prithviraj’ can be described as an ‘educational film’ and hopes the younger generation watches it for a better understanding of history.
Maharashtra reported 248 new coronavirus infections and one pandemic-related death on Saturday, the state health department said.
