(Untold Tales of Bollywood) first superstar writer Pandit Mukhram Sharma

When we think of writers who have achieved superstar status on the basis of script writing in the film world, the first name that comes to our mind is Salim – Javed. But before that this status was achieved by Pandit Mukhram Sharma. The posters of ‘Dhool Ka Phool’ which was produced by BR Films were written on the posters of ‘Dhool Ka Phool’ by Pandit Mukhram Sharma. BR Chopra took Rajkumar as the hero in this film. When the prince heard the story, Pandit said to Mukhram Sharma – Panditji, you have made me a villain. Change this angle. Sharma ji’s answer was if the angle is changed then what will be left in the story?

Rajkumar left the film but the story was not changed. Later Rajendra Kumar did the role of Rajkumar. The film was also made and given a super hit. Pandit Mukhram Sharma used to write films regularly for BR Films. His way of writing was very simple, first told the story to Chopra sahib i.e. director BR Chopra. If the story was liked, then the whole film was written and given. Never talk to anyone in between. Once Chopra sahib told him that if you have written a little, then one day later you will listen to Yusuf sahab (Dilip Kumar). That’s what they want. Dilip sahib was the biggest star at that time but Panditji refused to go to him. As a result, Pandit Mukhram Sharma ji had to leave this film. This film was ‘Naya Daur’. On its success, Panditji and Dilip Kumar had a face-off in the party. Dilip sahib laughed at him and said – what was the harm in listening, anyone can give suggestions. Then Pandit Mukhram ji’s answer was – There was talk of making a picture of a cow with the director… what would anyone suggest until the picture of the cow is completed. When I make a picture of a cow and it looks like a horse and not a cow’s tail, then I can definitely suggest… How is the suggestion in an incomplete picture? So this was the light of Pandit Mukhram Sharma.

While walking…

Talking about the script writer, then listen to the interesting anecdote related to the naming of Javed Sahab. Javed was born on 17 January in Kamala Hospital, Gwalior. When his father reached the hospital with his friends, people said that when a child is born in the house of a Muslim, then azaan is read in his ear. He and his friends had the Communist Manifesto in their hands at that time, so it was decided that they read it here in their ears…. Further discussion took place regarding his name, then someone reminded his father that when he married his father, mother Safia, he had recited a poem which had a line… ‘Lamha lamha kisi magic ka fasana hoga’… so why Nor should it be named ‘magic’. In this way for a long time they were known only by the name of magic. But when it came to writing names in the school, it was said that some serious name should be found…. Then a name similar to ‘Jadu’ was found ‘Javed’, which means immortal and Akhtar means immortal star….
