Champions Trophy 2025 Semifinal Scenario: The Indian team under Rohit Sharma has reached the semis yet again. Having won the T20 World Cup last year, Rohit is now eyeing the Champions Trophy. Team India has made it to the final four after beating Bangladesh and Pakistan. It’s semifinal match is slated to take place in Dubai on March 4. They are likely to meet Australia there.

status of marks table

The Indian team is currently in second place in Group A. New Zealand is on the top position in the points table after winning both the matches played. Both teams have 4 points each but the Kiwis have better net run rate than Team India, so they are on the top. Pakistan and Bangladesh are currently at the bottom and have not won a single match so far. Both teams are yet to open their account, with Pakistan placed fourth in the group and even breaching Bangladesh in net run rate.

Here’s how the Champions Trophy operates:

As per the competition structure, the leading team in Group A will meet the runner-up team from Group B in the semifinals. Also, the nation that comes second in Group A will compete with the winner from Group B. While making the announcement on the fixtures for Champions Trophy, ICC has stated that regardless of whether India comes first or second in Group A, they will have their semifinal game in Dubai. This is certain on March 4. Now, as per the structure, the team which is supposed to play against India will come to Dubai.

How will we face Australia in the semifinals?

Possibility 1: India very well could be playing against Australia in the semifinals. If Team India manages to beat New Zealand in the last game, they will place first in Group A. Meanwhile, if Australia come second in Group B, they will have to head to Dubai. A semifinal game could be very interesting between these two teams.

Equation 2: In the event that the Indian team loses the last match to New Zealand, they will sit in second place of group A. Australia, on the other hand, will place first in Group B as long as they win their remaining matches to South Africa and Afghanistan. In both these cases, both teams can meet in the semi finals. However, if the position of the Indian and Australian team are mirrored in their respective groups, then both teams will be eliminated before the semi finals.

India will have a chance to take their revenge

Should India face Australia in the semi finals, they will have the chance to take revenge for the two crushing defeats they suffered two years back. In 2023, the entire Kangaroo team put forth a double whammy to Indians fans. First, they defeated team India in the finals of the World Test Championship and then soon after in the ODI World Cup finals held in Ahmedabad. If the Kangaroo combine does face them in the semi finals, Rohit Sharma will be looking to take revenge.
