The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a new travel policy that will be implemented for the first time in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. As per the revised guidelines, the families of Indian cricketers will not be allowed to accompany them during the tournament.

Team India is set to play its first match against Bangladesh on February 20, 2025, in Dubai. The much-anticipated clash against arch-rival Pakistan will take place on February 23. Following this, India will face New Zealand on March 2. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India will play all its matches in Dubai, while the rest of the tournament will be hosted in three cities across Pakistan starting from February 19.

BCCI Implements Strict Rules

According to media reports, BCCI is firm on enforcing its policies. A formal Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been shared with all players, detailing regulations regarding travel, practice sessions, baggage allowance, and restrictions on family members.

During the third ODI in Ahmedabad, players were informed that no exceptions would be made regarding these rules. A source quoted in the report stated, "There is no room for relaxation on this matter. The BCCI is serious about implementing the SOP."

No Family Members Allowed in Champions Trophy

The official document issued by BCCI outlines that family members can accompany players for two weeks on tours lasting 45 days or more. However, since the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is a 20-day event, family members, including Anushka Sharma, Ritika Sajdeh, and other players' spouses, will not be allowed to travel with them to Dubai.

Players' Request Denied by BCCI

As per a PTI report, some senior players inquired about the possibility of bringing their families along. However, the board made it clear that any such arrangement would have to be self-funded by the players.

A senior player reportedly made a request, hoping for an exception, but it was denied by the board. BCCI remains firm on its stance and will not relax the rules for anyone.

Players Must Bear Their Own Expenses

A BCCI official, quoted in the PTI report, stated:

"Unless there is a policy change, players’ families will not be allowed on this tour. A senior player raised the matter but was informed that the policy must be followed. Since the tour is less than a month long, families are not permitted. However, if a player still wishes to bring his family, he must cover all expenses himself. The BCCI will not bear any costs."

With this strict policy in place, Team India will travel to Dubai without their families, focusing solely on the Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.
