A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar earlier today, leading to significant infrastructure damage and widespread panic. The quake buckled roads in Naypyidaw, the nation's capital, and caused buildings to crack and collapse. Tremors were strongly felt in neighboring Thailand, forcing residents to evacuate into the streets.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 17.2 kilometers from Mandalay, a city with a population of nearly 1.2 million. The seismic event has sparked concern across the region as reports of destruction continue to surface.

Social media platforms have been flooded with photos and videos allegedly showing the aftermath, including collapsed structures and debris-strewn streets. However, the authenticity of these images has not been independently verified.

In Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, the earthquake’s impact was also felt. Local police confirmed that a high-rise building under construction collapsed near the well-known Chatuchak Market. Emergency responders are currently on the scene, but officials have yet to confirm the number of casualties or workers present at the time.

One widely circulated video captured the terrifying moment when a multi-story building with a crane atop came crashing down into a plume of dust, with bystanders seen fleeing the scene in panic.

Authorities are continuing rescue operations and damage assessments in both Myanmar and Thailand. As the situation evolves, updates are expected from regional disaster management teams and local governments.
