Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Work, family, and caregiving responsibilities make it easy for women to ignore their health issues. Often, early symptoms are viewed as stress or lifestyle choices instead of serious conditions. Complicated treatments and late diagnoses are consequences of neglecting consultative advice, suspicions, and symptoms, as Dr. Sahana K P, Consultant - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Apollo Hospital, Seshadripuram, educates.

“Pain or fatigue of any kind shouldn’t be taken as normal any more than gaps in menstruation should. It's important to act decisively when medical assistance is needed,” Dr. K P states.

1. Constant Fatigue

When tiredness persists even after long rest periods, it may indicate broader underlying conditions such as a lack of the right foods or low iron, B12, or calcium.

“Sensible supplementation can prevent so much suffering. If women are able to take supplements with age and suffer anemia or other vitamin deficiencies fatigue can be addressed significantly,” observes Dr. Sahana.

2. Shortness of Breath or Chest Discomfort

Being breathless or feeling tightness in the chest while performing any activity should not be overlooked as stress and should instead be treated.

“Such pains may be indicative of severe heart and lung conditions and require immediate attention along with psychological assessment. Timely ECGs and cardiology workup is essential,” she alerts.

3. Heavy or Irregular Periods

Unusual changes to the menstrual cycle may signal underlying fibroids, PCOS, or even a hormonal problem.

“In my view, regular ultrasounds almost always pinpoint such root causes but cycles being tracked is a prerequisite,” Dr. Sahana advises.

4. Hair Thinning or Loss

Thinning hair or loss may result from a thyroid problem, as well as low levels of iron, vitamin D, and other essential nutrients.

“Hair often reveals an underlying health problem. Consider testing for a thyroid issue or checking for nutrients.,” she suggests.

5. Cognitive Functions

The inability to sleep or remain asleep at any particular time can affect cognition as well as general wellbeing.

“You may want to monitor your sleep patterns as persistent challenges may need some form of hormonal evaluation or psychotherapy,” states Dr. Sahana.

6. Thyroid Dysfunction

Shifts in moods, exhaustion, and changes to weight are frequently observed in most people as a result of having an issue with their thyroid– particularly in women, hypothyroidism.

“Add TSH blood test to the list of tests in your annual check-up,” she advises.

7. Routine screenings: Breast, Blood Pressure and Anaemia

It is essential to examine one's breast routinely, especially after hitting the age of forty. But blood Pressure and Anemia have to be monitored constantly.

“Testing for anaemia is also very important, especially for women who are having their periods,” is the conclusion of Dr Sahana
