Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Thirteen councillors from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have quit the party’s primary membership and announced the creation of a new political party – Indraprastha Vikas Party. This shift in geography will be governed by Mukesh Goel, former leader of AAP in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Cause for Resignation
According to Goel, the AAP’s lack of effective governance is the foremost lapse that resulted in the internal conflict. “The residents of Delhi could not be served due to a squabble within the party,” he said.
Another resigning councillor, Ashok Pandey, said that he felt the loss of AAP’s leadership support became a rationale to halt operations. “We did not receive the requisite monetary aid for civic problems like rubbish and sewage in unrecognised colonies,” he said. He further claimed that uncountable meetings with party authorities went unanswered.
Focus on Development of the Newly Introduced Party
Himani Jain, ex-AAP councillor, stated that the newly formed Indraprastha Vikas Party will have unparalleled reliability when responding to issues. “The MCD literally did nothing for 2.5 years, so now any party that will truly commit to Delhi’s development will have our support,” she stated.
Political Context and Consequences
These resignations come soon after the BJP recaptured control of the MCD, after AAP chose to boycott the civic elections. This is AAP’s second major electoral loss within a year, the first being the party's loss during the Delhi Assembly elections.
These sudden exits only underscore the increasing discontent and internal disputes within AAP. AAP has been under fire due to stalled civic projects and perceived non-transparency regarding the internal governance of the party.
