The Directorate of Geology and Mining in Uttar Pradesh initiated a decisive crackdown on the illegal transportation of minerals resulting in significant penalties for violators. The special drive which spanned three days was organized under the leadership of Director Mala Srivastava to address the rising concerns of revenue leakage and unchecked mining activities. Teams comprising officers from the mining department and local police forces conducted surprise inspections on key highways and transport corridors to catch offenders off guard. Throughout the operation over five thousand trucks and dumpers were intercepted and scrutinized by officials to check for valid permits and adherence to prescribed loading limits.
The results of this intensive campaign were substantial with punitive action taken against more than four hundred vehicles for various infractions including overloading and the lack of proper documentation. The administration successfully recovered fines amounting to approximately one crore fifty lakh rupees from the defaulting transporters during this period. To send a strong message to the mining mafia seven formal police cases were registered against individuals involved in flagrant violations of the state mining laws. Districts such as Sonbhadra and Jalaun saw the highest number of vehicle seizures indicating the scale of operations in these resource rich areas. The director has strictly ordered officials to ensure that no mineral laden vehicle enters the state borders without a valid inter state transit pass thus ensuring strict legal compliance moving forward.
