In a tragic incident at IIT Kanpur, a 26-year-old female employee committed suicide by hanging herself in her room on February 14, 2026.

The incident has caused a wave of shock across the campus, marking another suicide case at the prestigious institution following a student's death just a month ago.

Key Details of the Incident

The Victim: Identified as Anju Kumari, a resident of Jaduguda, Singhbhum East (Jharkhand).

Position: She was working as a Junior Technician in the Chemistry Department at IIT Kanpur.

The Discovery: The body was found in Room No. 102 when her friend came to call her for duty in the morning. She had reportedly used a scarf (dupatta) to hang herself.

Personal Life: Anju had recently gotten engaged on September 25.

Possible Cause: Preliminary investigations suggest she was under immense mental stress due to the recent death of her twin brother.

Police Action

Kalyanpur Police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.

Forensic experts have collected evidence from the room.

No suicide note has been reported so far, but the police are questioning her colleagues and family members to understand the exact circumstances.

Concerns Over Recurring Incidents

This is the second suicide reported at IIT Kanpur in early 2026. The recurring nature of such incidents has reignited concerns regarding mental health support for both students and staff members within the campus.
