Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav has issued a statement claiming that the current internal tussle within the Uttar Pradesh BJP is not due to any rumored rebel meetings but is a direct consequence of the recent voter list revision. He alleged that information regarding the deletion of millions of names during the Special Intensive Revision or SIR has caused significant unrest among the ruling party MLAs. Yadav cited reports circulating among legislators that approximately 2.89 crore voters have been removed from the electoral rolls across the state which has triggered a wave of fear regarding their electoral prospects.
The former Chief Minister provided a calculation to support his claims stating that the vast majority of the deleted voters are believed to be supporters of the current state leadership. He suggested that if roughly 2.45 crore of the removed names were indeed supporters of the government it would mean an average loss of around sixty thousand votes in every assembly constituency. Yadav argued that such a deficit would make it impossible for the BJP to win seats and could potentially reduce their tally to single digits causing MLAs to panic and hold desperate meetings to save their political careers.
Yadav further commented that the frustration among BJP legislators has reached a boiling point because they feel unheard by both the government organization and allied parties. He stated that the legislators are aware they will likely fail the pre election performance surveys due to the drastic reduction in their support base caused by these deletions. According to the SP leader the consequences of corruption by a few powerful figures in the BJP are now plaguing the entire party leading to a situation where the ruling dispensation is trapped in a crisis of its own making.
