A tragic plane crash in Turkey resulted in the deaths of all eight individuals on board, including Libya's Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Yousef al-Mangoush, and other high-ranking Libyan military officers. The incident occurred as a Libyan military aircraft went down approximately 30 kilometers south of Istanbul, scattering wreckage over a three-kilometer area.

Initial reports indicate that the plane experienced technical difficulties, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency and attempt an emergency landing. However, contact was lost with the aircraft, a Libyan air force Antonov 26, shortly after. The plane, en route from Libya's Mitiga airport near Tripoli, was reportedly transporting medicine and other supplies.

According to Turkish media reports, General al-Mangoush was believed to be among the fatalities. Other senior military officers, including his son, were also on board the ill-fated flight. Turkish officials stated that the bodies were severely burned and unrecognizable, with forensic experts working to identify the victims. While some initial reports suggested a cargo plane, authorities later confirmed it was a Libyan air force aircraft.

Witnesses on the ground reported hearing a large explosion before the crash, with some speculating that an engine failure might have been the cause. Rescue teams swiftly arrived at the scene, which was challenging to access due to thick fog. The investigation into the exact cause of the crash is currently underway.
