Ukraine America Mineral Deal: Following a tense exchange with US President Donald Trump at the Trump’s white house, Volodymyr Zelensky seems to have transitioned towards a more agreeable stand. He
is now willing to finalize the mineral agreement with the United States. This remark from Zelensky comes after Ukraine got support from the European leaders’ summit in London on Sunday 02 March 2025. The summit was centered on Ukraine’s future and the Ukrainian-EU relations.
Zelensky will make concessions
“I have said earlier, we are willing to sign the mineral deal if it is default mode. If there is consensus from both the sides, we will sign the agreement. But, it was not clear whether the United States is willing to proceed with the agreement that is prepared by both the sides and is ready for ratification,” Zelseky said.
will create together the strategy on how to stop the war
US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant commented, “This is useless if you wish to keep fighting.” In response, Zelensky stated, “I need a guarantee of the sovereignty of my country, and only then can I expect the US to help end the war with China.”
In the meantime, France and Britain attempted to accelerate peace efforts, which were strongly endorsed by Donald Trump, the US President. Zelensky has some reservations about this, however.
Starmer mentioned that he and the French President Emmanuel Macron would formulate a peace plan alongside Zelensky and submit the same to Trump. Additionally, he stated that the United Kingdom and France, together with 1 or 2 other nations, will collaborate with Ukraine in devising a strategy to curb the violence and afterward deliberate the details with the US.
Zelensky will receive assistance from Europe
French President Emmanuel Macron proposed, “So the first stage of the ceasefire will be an air, sea and energy infrastructure blockade while ground fighting will continue because observing ground activities will be difficult.” Throughout this peace process, France and Britain have offered to send troops to peace keeping operations. Starmer mentioned, “In this case, we agree with Trump on the need for a sustainable peace. We know that we now have to cooperate, but Europe also must do a lot.”
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said at the summit, 'Europe is prepared to provide assistance to Ukraine to confront Russia’ during the visit. Macron said that European nations need to increase their defense expenditure to 3-3.5% of their GDP which is above NATO's target of 2%. He has said that Europeans should increase their defense spending. Macron also stated that however, Russia is allocating 10% of it's GDP for defense.
