From October to December of 2024, YouTube deleted approximately 9.5 million videos, with India being the highest at almost 3 million.

YouTube has put in place policies that prevent the proliferation of hate speech, violence, harassment, and misinformation. With the integration of AI technology alongside human reviewers, the platform is able to monitor and eliminate deleterious content. YouTube’s advanced system manages to filter out the majority of harmful content before it accrues extensive views.

Child safety violations were the leading reason for takedown requests, with over five million videos removed for endangering children. Other reasons included dangerous activities, harassment, and graphic violence. Also popular were spam and misleading videos.

YouTube got rid of 4.8 million channels too, mostly for spam and scams, and it’s not just videos. The deletion of a channel results in all associated videos being removed. This led to over 54 million videos being deleted without YouTube’s consent.

A staggering 1.2 billion comments were also deleted by youtube, the majority for spam, but some for harassment and threats.

YouTube claims it’s putting in a lot of effort to keep the platform safe for users; however, India’s leading YouTube in removals certainly makes one ponder as to what is going wrong. The company is now pushing creators to obey the guidelines to avoid having their content taken down. So, if you are going to upload videos, you'd better do it according to the standard procedures.
