At times, when you get a video call on WhatsApp, you might not feel like showing up on camera for the call. Perhaps you are in pajamas, your hair is a mess, or simply, you do not want to show your face. Currently, when you accept a WhatsApp call, the camera at the front of the device turns on. While it is possible to turn it off, you can only do so after the person making the call sees you. Things are about to change on WhatsApp, though.
According to a report by Android Authority, WhatsApp is working on a feature that disables video immediately after accepting a call. Instead of rushing to disable video after answering, you will receive an option, “Turn off your video,” before picking up the call. Picking the option allows you to only start the call with voice and later switch to video, if you want.
This update comes with important security advantages, and for you personally, it would spare you from embarrassing situations. In certain nations, India for instance, scammers are anthologizing people over video calls using blackmail techniques. They would initiate a video call, show the victim some sexually explicit content, take a snapshot for their sick videos, and use it to extort money. WhatsApp allows users to start a video call without the video, thereby enabling them better control over their privacy while reducing chances of falling for some scam.
The feature was reportedly seen in WhatsApp’s newest beta (android 2.25.7.3 version) but the launch is yet to be confirmed. It would definitely be useful to strangers, therefore it shouldn’t take long to be made available to everyone.
Prepare for the next surprise video call because now you have the option to remain invisible until ready or skip the activation of your camera completely.
