
The violent protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on Friday in West Bengal, notably in Murshidabad district, were unprecedented. Protesters blocked main roads and railways, set fire to several vehicles, and engaged in violent clashes with the police. While there were more than 138 arrests, 3 people died, and 15 police officers were injured during the clashes.
Central Forces Deployed After High Court’s Intervention
Following the violence, Calcutta High Court decided to send central forces to West Bengal to control the situation. Such violence and riots require strict measures to maintain order.
Mamata Banerjee, Calm Down Contradict Riot Blame
While addressing the conflict, Mamata Banerjee the Chief Minister of the state also pointed out that it was not her government that enacted the Waqf law, but the central government. She also asked people to stop the violence and stated that anyone found attempting to instigate riots would be legally dealt with.
\"Every life is invaluable,\" she remarked on X. “The society is being ravaged by political provocation.\"
Banerjee Denies Implementation of Waqf Law
In all parts of the state, amendments of the Waqf Act will not be executed as stated by Banerjee. The reason for the widespread protests is unclear, considering the government’s stance on the state.
“Why the violence, then?” she asked. “Some political groups are using religion for political advantage. Religion should promote peace and harmony, not division.”
For peace, appeal violence and take action
The violence in West Bengal has been covered by multiple news when the violence broke out in Jangipur and public property was destroyed like police stations and railway offices. Rajeev Kumar's actions to implement order to the district has not gone unnoticed as violence accompanied rumors took charge over Jangipur.
“No one is above the Law and everyone will be punished for any act of violence done,” he said, “There is active section 163 in violence affected region.”
BJP criticizes state government’s action
Majumdar clearly states that if things are going out of hands Articles 355 and 356 of the constitution could solve things. There is no need to take heightened action for both law and order. Protests have emerged and are led by none other than Mamata Banerjee.
In charge of West Bangal area BJP is the union minister Sukanta Majumdar who has put a blame on the education sector and created this distraction, claiming that violence suddenly appearing out of nowhere is aimed at changing things up and claiming new jobs are in danger.
