Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Kolkata: The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has initiated a significant recruitment process, aiming to fill over 35,726 teaching and headmaster/headmistress positions in state-aided and sponsored schools across West Bengal. This major announcement comes shortly after the Calcutta High Court invalidated the appointment of more than 25,000 teachers and non-teaching staff from a 2016 recruitment panel due to irregularities.

The WBSSC issued a public notice outlining the recruitment for assistant teachers catering to classes 9-10 and classes 11-12, as well as for headmasters and headmistresses. While an initial figure mentioned around 23,000 vacancies, the comprehensive notice details a requirement for 35,726 individuals. This includes 22,270 assistant teachers for the 9-10 standard, 11,048 for the 11-12 standard, and 2,408 headmasters/headmistresses.

Aspiring candidates will be able to apply online for these positions. The commission has stated that the application window for these posts, to be filled through the State Level Selection Test (SLST), will commence on May 9.

This new recruitment drive is a direct consequence of the Calcutta High Court's recent landmark judgment which nullified the 2016 recruitment panel, citing a "scam" where many appointments were made illegally after the panel had expired or by manipulating OMR sheets. The court had directed the WBSSC to initiate a fresh appointment process.

The WBSSC Chairman, Siddhartha Majumdar, has previously emphasized the commission's commitment to ensuring a transparent and fair selection process for this new round of recruitment. The move is seen as a crucial step to address the vacancies created by the court's order and to restore normalcy and trust in the state's teacher appointment system. This large-scale hiring initiative offers a significant opportunity for eligible candidates seeking teaching careers in West Bengal's government-aided school sector.
