Virat Kohli, known for his intensity and composure, once again made headlines during the IPL 2025 face-off between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk. In the 11th over of RCB’s innings, Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana delivered a sharp bouncer that hit Kohli on the helmet as he attempted a pull shot.
Despite the impact, Kohli quickly gave a thumbs-up to reassure both Pathirana and the crowd. Following standard safety protocol, he underwent a mandatory concussion check before resuming play.
On the very next delivery, Pathirana bowled a similar bouncer, but this time, Kohli was prepared. He struck it for a six and followed it up with a four, sending the crowd into a frenzy and showcasing his resilience.
RCB Secures First Win at Chepauk in 17 Years
RCB went on to score 196/7, powered by a crucial 51-run knock by captain Rajat Patidar. Despite losing Phil Salt early and Kohli later—both dismissed by Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad—RCB managed to build a strong total.
Chasing 197, CSK faltered and ended their innings at 146/8, suffering a 50-run defeat. This loss marked CSK’s first home defeat to RCB in 17 years.
Kohli’s Knock and RCB’s Strong Start to IPL 2025
Kohli contributed 31 off 30 balls, playing a key role in stabilizing the innings before his dismissal. With back-to-back away wins against CSK and KKR, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are off to a promising start and are eyeing their maiden IPL title this season.
