A few days back, Indian Railways in surprising and welcome news for travelers, revealed a considerable reduction in pricing for the Vande Bharat Express train Route between Delhi to Dehradun. The intention of this change is to enhance accessibility of the high-speed rail service along with increasing its occupancy on a stretch which has numerous pilgrimage and tourist spots.
As semi-high-speed trains go, the Vande Bharat Express is one of the best. It provides modern facilities that need comfortable travel as well as other conveniences. Passengers traveling between Delhi and Dehradun will benefit the most from the recent fare change. Earlier, the fare for Chair Car (CC) class ticket on this route was about Rs 1,000. Now, it's only Rs 820 which is a reduction of Rs 180.
Likewise, interfacing EC (Executive Class) has premium seats and more advanced systems that give better services. Thus, it has also experienced an important price reduction. The ticket for EC from Delhi to Dehradun will now be priced at Rs 1,305 down from Rs 1,740 which is a reduction of Rs 435.
We would like to mention that from Haridwar to Delhi fares on the Vande Bharat train continue to be the same. Hadwar bound passengers would still pay Rs 680 for Chair Car and Rs 1230 for Executive Class.
What Leads to Fare Modification?
Informants indicate that the modification made to the fares is an attempt to tackle the problem of low occupancy on the Delhi to Dehradun section of the route. With lower prices, Indian Railways hopes to improve the number of travelers, thus enhancing ridership and revenue. This is also expected to stimulate tourism in the Haridwar and Dehradun areas which are famous for religious tourism and sight-seeing.
The Vande Bharat Express from Delhi to Dehradun, which runs in about 4 hours 45 minutes, was flagged off on May 25, 2023 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With this change Indian Railways demonstrated that they are willing to change pricing based on demand in the market and try to increase the usage of trains which is a good sign.
